I read this article online and was shocked that police are trying to take away peoples cameras, phones, etc. for recording police when they are acting out of order. The police do not have the right to do this and I think this is another way police can abuse their power even though it is not physical abuse.
The cops at the death of Sammy Yatim was doing their job when a cop demanded that the public that is there to delete the photos and videos that they just took because the cop said “It was obstructing justice.” But the public was on the side taking photos and videos and not interfering with the police at all. They we'er arrested for this for some reason when they didn't do anything wrong or interfere with the police. To me the cops should get more training by other officers and know the law better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelsey. This article brings up the question of police conduct, but also touches on the right of privacy. I find the statement that people can "photograph and video-record anybody" in a public place a bit troublesome. What are your thoughts on that? Also, the idea of police having cameras on their uniforms is an interesting one.
